The Bear That Was Swimming
Across
One day there was a man named Steven, his wife, Marie, and their
two children, Bobby and Bertha, who were going for a camping trip.
After they got ready to go, they started up the river to where their
cabin was. It took them an hour and a half to reach their cabin. When
they got there they unloaded their boat and put all their food,
clothing, bedding and other stuff in their cabin.
Later in the evening, Steven and Bobby went out fishing so Marie
could cut fish. Marie and Bertha were left alone. Two hours passed
and Steven and Bobby never came back. Marie started to cook so Steven
and Bobby could eat some hot food when they came home. When the
cooking was half done Bertha looked out on the river and saw two
animals swimming towards them. Bertha called her mom and told her to
come. So Marie came running up to her, and out on the river she
spotted two Brown bears! By then the bears were only 50 feet away
from them. Bertha remembered her father's 12 gauge shotgun by their
door in the
cabin. Since Steven had taught Marie how to shoot his 12 gauge,
Bertha went and got it. Marie then loaded the gun, putting two 12
gauge shells
in it. Then she shot the gun towards the river and nearly hit one
of the bears. Then it turned around and went back to the other side
of the river. But the other bear kept on coming! Marie shot at it but
she missed it by 20 feet. So she had to load the gun again. By the
time she was done reloading the gun though the bear was 25 feet away.
When she shot the first shell she nearly hit it, but the bear was
still coming!
Steven and Bobby were on their way up when they heard shooting.
Steven made the boat go faster. When they finally got there the bear
was only 10 feet away! So Steven took out his gun and shot the bear
in the right arm. The bear stopped moving and Steven shot another
shell, but this time he hit the bear in the head and the bear died.
Then he and Bobby went back to get it. After they brought the bear to
the landing they skinned it out and hung it up. Marie and Bertha were
both very
happy Steve and Bobby had come just in the nick of time!
