THE
UGLY GOOSE
This is a Play based on a story
told by Martina Prince.
Characters: Narrator: Aaron Kaganak
Gilda: Norma Charlie
1st F: Marie Hunter
2nd F: Matilda Kasayuli
3rd F: Martina Prince
Narrator: Once there was this very ugly goose who
lived near the Askinuk Mountains. Her name was Gilda. She was always
alone because her friends never wanted to be near her. This made her
sad.
Narrator : Meanwhile her friends were making fun
of her while she was at the other end of the pond.
1st Friend: She is so ugly that she could make a
flower die just by looking at it.
2nd Friend: Yeah. I don't think she'll ever get a
husband.
3rd friend: (Yelling to her from other side of the
pond.) Hi ugly! You know you're so ugly that you could kill a plant
just by looking at it.
Gilda: Why do my friends have to make so much fun
about my looks?
But the wind said: Don't mind them. You never know
what will happen at the end.
Gilds: But what have I done wrong to make them do
this? I've always wanted to be their friend and I will always want to
be their friend.
Narrator: Later Gilda went home to her mother,
brothers, and sisters. Ivan they loved her sometimes they would make
fun of her too.
Narrator: Gilda felt so bad that she left home for
two years. When she finally came home, something happened that
surprised her. She saw some geese flying and she was frightened
because of what they might say to her; but she decided to fly beside
them anyway.
1st friend: Who is that bird? Where did she come
from?
2nd Friend: Look at her beautiful feathers. She is
so beautiful.
Narrator : When the geese landed, she landed near
them and everyone surrounded her and admired her.
1st Friend: Who are you? Where did you come
from?
Gilda: I came from Goose Sake near Hooper Bay.
This is where I used to live.
Narrator: So it is that when her old friends saw
her again they were surprised and they admired her for her beauty.
And since she was looking for a husband, she found the most handsome
bird of all, and his name was George. And they lived happily ever
after.
So the lesson is never judge a person or any
creature by the way they look because they might turn out to be
beautiful or handsome.
