Ruth Ann Fitka
Health Aide
Ruth Fitka was born in Bethel, Alaska, in 1963. She grew up here
in Marshall and in a fish camp. She attended school here and at the
St. Mary's Mission. She did not graduate from high school but she got
her G.E.D. She has not attended college but has college credits from
health aide training.
Ruth has worked in the clinic since 1990 and she plans to work
there as long as she can. She likes her job because it is
challenging. Ruth was first interested in her job because she wanted
to help people. She needed training in First Aid, CPR, Emergency
Trauma and Basic Health before she could receive her job. Since she
got her job, she has received EMT-1, Preceptorship, Math, and General
Health Aide Training.
Ruth feels her job keeps her stimulated because she learns new
things all the time. She says that the best thing about her job is
being around people and helping them feel better.
She says that her family doesn't affect her job performance
because her children are not small anymore, and it's easier to have a
full time job now.
