Two Moose In One
Day
"On September 2nd Herman George and I
wanted to go moose hunting, but we were undecided on where to go. We
either wanted to go to Nuuksuk or lgeravaq. We thought that there
would be too many hunters at Nuuksuk, so we decided to go to
Igeravaq. We got enough gas and grub to last four or five days, then
took off around 4:30 in the afternoon. It took us about an hour to
get there. I let Herman take over driving for a while. We went in
about five miles where we saw a moose right away. I shot but missed,
and while I was reloading, Herman shot the moose. We started skinning
the moose right away. We were done butchering the moose by 6:30, and
we put the moose meat on the bank where we could pick it up on the
way out of the slough. Then we decided to look for a campsite farther
inside the slough. We went in about three miles where we saw another
moose. I shot at it and I hit it this time. We skinned and dressed
the moose, and were done by 8:00. When we were finished we loaded the
meat in the boat, and, since it was still early enough to come home,
we decided to pick up Herman's moose and return to Marshall. My moose
antlers measured 38 and a half inches. I've hunted a lot of moose
before but that was the shortest moose hunt that I've ever been
on."
