Irene
Evan
Irene hardly got to do anything, she
said. She only stayed home, went to church and stayed at fish camp.
She went to fish amp with her husband Vernon, Tern and her two girls.
At fishcamp she watched everybody catch fish while she caught bugs.
She also took some rides with Vernon.
She likes it here in Marshall better
than at fish camp because it is warmer
here. While she was here she either stayed home or went to church.
She doesn't like to stay home at all but she has to because of the
body aches on one side of her body an because her legs and eyes are
bum so much. She does listen to
the doctor though when he tells her to do
something. When she's at home she
watches T.V., does the dishes, (although
she has to be careful not to cut her hands), sings Eskimo songs, and
tries to cook even though they tell her not to. She really wanted to
cut fish this summer but she
can't see very well so she didn't. She said, "No
good being old, but I love to watch
people go back and forth." She would really
love to instruct kids in how to Eskimo dance more, but the
pain stops her.
Irene said to me, "Right now when I'm
looking at you, you are just black,
but the white things I see are white. When you speak to me you
have to speak loud so I can
hear!"
Well it seems that in some ways Irene
sort of enjoyed her summer. I hope
she has more and better ones coming up!
