The Whiteout
"A few years ago, when my brother
Fabe and I were traveling by snow machine from St. Mary's to Pilot
Station, we got caught in a whiteout. From St. Mary's to Pilot
Station, a trip that would normally take about 30 to 45 minutes took
us four hours. Good thing we had a full tank of gas or else we would
have gotten stranded in the storm. We would try going in all kinds of
different directions to find the trail but we found ourselves going
around in circles and always ended up back at the same blackfish
trap.
Then we headed towards downriver
along the slough we were in and finally came across another
snowmachine. We went as fast as we could to try to catch him. When we
caught up to him, he turned out to be Terry Peters of Pilot Station.
He asked us if we were lost and we said, yes. He told us he was lost
also. So we decided to travel together in a straight line. After
awhile we stumbled on a trail marker, and we followed it until we got
to Pilot Station. We finally made it safe and sound. Thankfully there
is a God above!"
