One summer season
There once lived a young Eskimo hunter in a log cabin on a
mountain beside the sea. Near his cabin were beautiful big spruce
trees, flowers, and lots of wild animals.
This young Eskimo loved to hunt in the sea, and he would bring the
sea animals that he caught to his cabin by kayak. He also believed
that if he caught a black seal, he would get 3 wishes.
Later the young Eskimo was out in the sea paddling his kayak away,
and just as he was peering at the ocean wave, he saw something that
looked like a black shadow on the water. He searched hard trying to
figure out what he saw. As he was peering at it, he somehow knew it
was a black seal. He rushed towards it, but the black seal escaped by
diving down to the deep sea. He waited patiently until the black seal
popped up in front of the kayak,
then the young Eskimo threw his spear and harpooned the seal. He
harpooned it somewhere in its neck. The young Eskimo brought the seal
ashore, and he was happy. Then he remembered that he would get 3
wishes, so he wished for a brand new kayak, better cabin, and a whole
lifetime of food. He waited for a long time but nothing hapened. His
wishes did not come true. So he kept on hunting more black seals. But
nothing happened, he thought. He didn't realize that by catching a
whole bunch of black seals he had already almost caught a lifetime of
food.
