Yup'ik RavenStorytelling in the Yup’ik Immersion Classroom

Sample Mini-Stories

9. Aataq Qenertuq Dad is Angry

In the Health curriculum, we teach Second Step lessons, an anti-violence prevention program. In the primary lessons one of the units we cover is emotions. The following mini-story is about dad being angry when wolf eats lots of food from the refrigerator. We have a classroom discussion on other ways on how dad could have handled the problem. We also talk about wolf who could have communicated his needs before causing tension with dad. This was one of the first stories we dramatized from Anderson and Marsh (1998).
