Staying up
Late
"During my summer vacation I went on
a lot of boat rides with Richard Boots and my brother Nick, either
over to the sandbar to swim or to Willow to do some fishing. Most
nights I also stayed up really late in the morning with my friends by
the Post Office.
After school was out in May we
started to go on boat rides all over the place because it was cool.
Most of the time we ended up over at the sandbar swimming. We had
lots of fun there almost every day. Once we even camped over there,
but it was boring because there was just me, Girlie, Rose, and
Richard. It also got really cold at night and then very hot during
the day.
After swimming got boring, we went up
to Willow and tried to catch some pike or white fish. Most of the
time, Richard would bring his .22 and shoot almost a whole box of
shells on nothing. We hardly saw any bears around there, maybe
because it was too early in the year.
During nights some other guys and I
would hang around down by the Post Office till early in the morning,
but even that was boring after a while. Most of the time we would
tell stories and make fun of each other over there until about 8:00
a.m. After doing that, we would go home and sleep all day, then get
up in the evening and go on another boat ride.
It was cool this summer because there
was no curfew, and we got to stay out late and go on boat rides with
Richard and Nick."
