Activities
- Check wholesalers in Alaska for
the best assortment of goods and best prices.
- Find a wholesale outlet that will
let you purchase items without paying for them until
after you have sold them:
- some companies will pick out
the assortment for you if you give them a price
range for items.
- Plan your purchase two months
ahead of the holiday season; sell one week before
Christmas. Purchase toys, candy, candles, clothing, and
other miscellaneous items.
- Keep accurate accounts
payable.
- Mark everything up a small amount
(10%) to cover postage, insurance, loss of items during
sale, and advertising.
- Compose and lay out
advertisements.
- Practice operating the cashier and
salesmanship before the sale.
- After the sale, pay the companies
which have extended you credit.
- Balance your accounts:
- after the first attempt you'll
have a better idea of what to order and how much;
Selawik students purchased $2,200 of assorted items
the first year; almost everything was sold-enough to
pay the wholesale companies; the villagers appreciated
the service and asked for it again.
