Alvin Owletuck Sr.
Mayor of Marshall
Alvin Owletuck is the mayor for the
city of Marshall. His employer is also the city of Marshall. Alvin
has an 8th grade education, but he has the approproriate training for
the job, city management, which he received over the years from the "school of experience".
He works at the city office with the
city clerk and the local government. His hours of work depend on how
much work is to be done, usually about 3-6 hours a day. Four of
Alvin's job responsibilities are: making sure the budget is not
overspent, keeping the water and sewer situation up to date, doing
state revenue reports, and making sure the city ordinances are being
followed.
Alvin expects to work as mayor until
the next election, which is in October. The best thing about his job
he says is when everything is caught up and there's no paperwork. The
worst thing about his job is trying to keep the people notified,
management of water and sewer, and other projects.
Alvin's advice for young people who
might want his job in the future is: if you're going to run local
government you need a lot of training. Higher education would also be
useful. The training necessary for this job is management.
