Marshall
Cultural Atlas
This collection of student work is from
Frank Keim's classes. He has wanted to share these works for others
to use as an example of Culturally-based curriculum and documentation. These
documents have been OCR-scanned. These are available
for educational use only.
Liz Fitka
Community Health
Aide
Liz Fitka is one of our Health Aides
in Marshall. She works for Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation which
is located
in Bethel, Alaska. Her instructor is Elena Nelson. The training that
is required for her job is: yearly CPR Courses, Patient Training
Education, Emergency Trauma Training, Pre-session, Session 1, Session
2 and Session 3, and preceptorship. She has also completed the GED
program and now has her diploma.
Most of the time she works with Ruth
Fitka and Nora Tikiun, the other Health Aides in the clinic. She
works six hours a day, five days a week helping people and taking
care of them. Her four basic responsibilities are: daily monthly
logs, filing records, doing medication orders, and keeping things
confidential. She enjoys working with people, helping them and
meeting new people. She doesn't have anything that she dislikes about
her job, and comments, "Maybe in the future I'll know what it
is."
If you want to become a Health Aide,
here's a little advice from the woman who knows. "Do a lot of
studying in school, mainly math and science. Also study the anatomy
of the human body and its functions."
