Leo Fitka
School Maintenance
Man
Leo works for the Lower Yukon School
District in Marshall and he works as the maintenance man at the
school. He's gone through high school and two years of A & P
mechanic training. He got his training in Los Angeles in building
maintenance right after high school.
He works 8 hours a day around the
school grounds. He gets paid 2,000 dollars a month and his boss is
Roger Adams. As long as Leo is healthy he will stay on the job. Most
of the time he works with Katemal Shorty and Paul Boots.
His responsibilities are to maintain
heat, water and lights in the school, to maintain the teacher
housing, to maintain the school building both inside and out, and to
maintain the school vehicles. The best thing about his job is having
a variety of things to do rather than the same thing every day. The
worst thing about his job is to fix the frozen water or oil lines in
20 degree below zero weather at night.
His advice to the students is have
futher education right after high school.
